Everything in this life is about attention & intention.

When we truly place our attention on something it gives us the innate ability to merge with that thing. By remaining attentive with positive intention, we give ourselves CHOICES. When we choose to surrender to the moment and accept that this moment is exactly as it should be – with all of it’s flaws and uncertainty – there is a sense of relief… we feel calmer, clearer, and carry a greater openness to the next moment.

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Like the daily practice of meditation – surrendering is a moment-to-moment practice.

Do you have the patience to wait
Till your mud settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving
Till the right action arises by itself? ~Lao Tzu

When we are innocent and vulnerable to the next moment, the universe unfolds with greater grace and ease – and we flow with it rather than observing from afar or struggling with it. The magic of miracles happens most when we remain open without expectation.

So why do we struggle? Why do we white knuckle the things that take up so much room, time, and energy within our sacred, internal space? Why is being neutral and accepting so difficult, especially when overcoming and releasing with grace feels so good? It all comes back to our primal desire to cling to the known – even if it’s an uncomfortable known because we crave the familiar.

As His Holiness, the Seventh Dalai Lama wrote, “All things found in the world and beyond are illusions created by one’s own concepts. Grasping at them but further distorts perception. Give up grasping and see things as they are.”

This might sound contradictory. On one hand detaching, and on the other hand placing your attention where it needs to go. But it’s the spiritual dance we perform each day as we show up & surrender. Finding the elusive balance between the two can be perplexing, especially when you are still searching for your desired outcome. That’s why pure surrender is detachment with attention. It’s like driving a car – we simply push down on the accelerator and steer. We don’t worry if the right amount of gas is getting into the engine, combusting at exactly the right moment, focusing on the gears interlocking at just the right time. Why? Because we trust that the process works. And if our attention is on the present and our intention is for the future – then surrender unfolds with ease.

The two components of surrender are Trust and Acceptance. Acceptance doesn’t mean that you’re compromising to life, situations, or people. Rather, it’s a wonderful opening of the heart, which connects you to the profound life force that is the symphony of universal existence…tapping you directly into the flow of nourishing energy. When we FINALLY let go of the “result driven” and “worried” patterns of thinking – we simultaneously open up to organically receiving what we desire most for ourselves.

So let’s spend this week surrendering and trusting that the seeds we’ve planted, fertilized, watered, nurtured, and loved will blossom & bloom because of our detachment!! In the meantime, I’ll see you in the gap! Aham brahmasmi baby. ~davidji

elements

Mantra: Akasha Ritam

According to Ayurveda, everything that flows within us and everything that flows outside of us is comprised of five master elements – space, air, fire, water, and earth.

Notice how these elements flow from the lightest SPACE…the most subtle expression of life –to the heaviest…the most dense – EARTH. As the progression moves from space to air to fire to water to earth – we see & feel the increase in form, shape, weight, and structure.

Ayurveda teaches us that everything in existence is a blend of these five master elements. So that means every person, every animal, every corner of the planet, every aspect of your daily life… has space, air, fire, water & earth flowing through it.

Read more about the five master elements here.

This intermingling of all five elements determines the energetic flow in every moment…in every conversation…in every interaction…in every interpretation & in every expression. Some moments carry more space, while others are fiery, and others are earthy. Some are sharp (filled with fire) while others are nourishing (water). By being mindful in each moment – and that comes from having a daily meditation practice – we can learn volumes about how & why we act the way we do, what elements are abundant or scarce in a given moment, and how to balance ourselves – bring us back to our natural state of balance.

The moment you feel yourself struggling or suffering – STOP – and ask yourself, “which element do I have too much of right now?” and “which element do I have too little of?” The answers will help you formulate your next step. Start the process by practicing 16 seconds. Breathe in to the count of four, hold to the count of four, exhale to the count of four, and hold the breath out to the count of four – all the while watching your breath as it flows and observing it as you hold it. Then reflect upon the element that’s over-abundant; and once you are clear, identify the one that’s weak. Breathe yourself back into balance by using words and performing actions that ease your excessive element and heighten the one that’s faint.

Another way to help awaken that process is through sound therapy. Hundreds of those who have immersed into Ayurvedic healing through the double-CD Journey to Infinity have expressed the depth of its transformative powers. The reason that I wrote the libretto was to provide a meditative & easily digestible way to absorb these teachings. The rapturous world music that transports each message is the magnificent expression of Canadian sound-healers SacredFire. The album is 102 minutes and on CD or mp3 download, the quality of the recording is pure ear candy. Thousands have experienced the transformational return to wholeness that Journey to Infinity offers. I invite you to join us on that Journey.

In the meantime, keep it real, keep meditating, and I’ll see you in the gap!!! Peace. -davidji

In my trusting the universe, I found something even more valuable than I could imagine – the outpouring of love and support from you…and thousands who reinforced that trust. I am deeply grateful that we are connected; I am humbled that we have shared the one-ness of present moment awareness together; and inspired that we are members of an evolving, global collective. Through trusting the universe and awakening each day to our most divine expressions, we will transform the world by transforming ourselves into more peaceful, compassionate, abundant, and loving individuals. The ripple from that is infinite.

Healing
“When all of your desires are distilled, you will have but two choices: to love more and to be happy.” –Hafiz

[Tweet “Let love into your heart right now @davidji_com #16seconds”]

At some point in your life, your heart was broken. Maybe you were very young or maybe you’re there right now. If you are experiencing emotional pain – first of all know that you are not alone. Everyone has their heart broken at some point. My heart has been broken many times, but I now know the tools and techniques to soothe the hurt, heal the wounds, forgive myself and others, and love again.

When we open our hearts wide, we experience the true magnificence of life. But once you’ve been wounded, your desire to trust and your ability to love again can get constricted. So much so that some people choose to stay in that space and the walls around their heart become hardened. They respond to life with resentment; they seal themselves in bitterness; they become suspicious, jaded, and antagonistic regarding others’ motives; their sadness becomes their normal emotion; and they immerse themselves deeper into their “story” which then becomes the immovable reality.

[Tweet “Self-compassion is just as important as compassion for others @davidji_com”]

Opening our heart is never easy – especially when there’s been a heartbreak that has shut us down and allowed us to build walls to protect the tenderness of our heart. In several of my heart-healing workshops, I teach many different methods of emotional release and rejuvenation. But RIGHT NOW, you can take some easy nourishing steps to feel again…to love again…and to let love back in:

1) We need to give ourselves permission to begin the process. You don’t have to give in or forgive someone (or even yourself) – but simply granting yourself permission to go to your heart is a HUGE STEP. It actually starts with you saying out loud, “I give myself permission to begin the process of opening my heart again.”
2) Accepting that you are entitled to receive unconditional love is critical. You are so worthy…so deserving to receive the love of the divine creator…the love of the universe…the love of others. Remind yourself throughout the day, “I am worthy. I am whole. I am a product of the divine creator.”
3) Acknowledging that HERE YOU ARE in this precious sacred moment and whatever broke your heart or continues to ache it…have brought you to this moment where you can love again…and feel love again. When you start to question everything around you, use the mantra “I TRUST. I TRUST. I TRUST”
4) Appreciating your environment – having gratitude for the world around you allows you take your attention off of your “oh poor me” mindset and allows you to ask, “How can I serve others?” Reach out to a person who is suffering or a cause that could use your support.
5) Having compassion is empathy plus rooting for someone’s pain and suffering to end. Having self-compassion (yes, rooting for yourself) and willing to forgive yourself for any big or little sins you’ve been beating yourself up over will allow you to step through your current pain which is holding you back. As Rabbi Hilel said, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now, when?”
6) Sharing love with others…flowing love into the world in every moment…living life with a Namaste mindset offers you an opportunity to BE THE CHANGE with very little risk to your tenderness. Text someone right now and tell them, “Thinking about you & sending love”.
7) And lastly…celebrate! Celebrate your little wins…your small successes. Party! And congratulate yourself for leaning in the direction of LOVE. And watch the healing unfold.

[Tweet “Be gentle with yourself and allow your heart to open to love @davidji_com”]

I was fortunate to have spent a decade under the tutelage of David Simon M.D. – a compassionate Sufi master – who each day shared with me his timeless wisdom of heart healing and emotional freedom. Under his guidance, I attended The Hoffman Quadrinity Process and immersed in Marshall Rosenberg’s Non-Violent Communication teachings. For many years, I was privileged to co-facilitate Healing the Heart – his emotional release workshop at the Chopra Center. If your heart is hurting and you are seeking emotional freedom, email me at info@davidji.com and allow me to guide you to some healing resources. In the meantime, keep meditating. Be gentle. And allow the process of your heart to open. I’ll see you in the gap! Peace. -davidji

Hello Spiritual Warriors!!

Healing is when you allow the universe’s innocent, natural process to gracefully unfold within you. We can define in it in every context as connecting to your innate wholeness – your most genuine self, which is the part of you that rests beneath your clothes, beneath your flesh, beneath your body, and even beneath your mind. That part of you is divine… pure… perfect… It is unblemished… knows no fear, or sadness, or grief… is beyond your regrets, grievances, and second-guessing. It transcends guilt, shame, sorrow, and anxiety.

[Tweet “Healing is when you allow the universe’s innocent, natural process to gracefully unfold within you @davidji_com #16seconds”]

This is who you truly are. It is all the characteristics of the best version of yourself. And here are a few steps to awaken healing and connect to it:
1) Quiet down – slow down – connect to your stillness & silence through a daily meditation practice and throughout the day through such techniques as 16seconds.
2) Forgive – forgive yourself, forgive god, forgive the world, forgive those around you – especially your petty tyrants – when we forgive… we free ourselves from the ties that bind us to the one that hurt us. That forgiveness starts with you forgiving yourself
3) Realize where you are – drink in this sacred, precious present moment – Remember this verse from the Bhagavad Gita – Yogastha kuru karmani – establish yourself in the present moment and then perform action… don’t keep looking for the divine reason or meaning behind your situation – breathe and surrender. Once you own where you are right now… you can better move forward with grace and ease.
4) Establish a daily gratitude practice – Make a list each day of the ten things you are most grateful for. When you find yourself feeling less-than… take out your list and bring yourself back to reality. Look around at ALL the silver linings that surround each moment and see the single special gift that sits before you RIGHT NOW.
5) Give yourself permission – to become whole – to slowly heal – to awaken your most divine self. Redefine yourself… beyond your circumstance… beyond your diagnosis… beyond your blame. And step into your power!!

[Tweet “5 steps to toward healing @davidji_com http://www.davidji.com/5-steps-awaken-healing/”]

If you can follow these 5 steps to awaken your inner healer, very quickly you will begin to feel the results. Doors will open. New loving light will expand in your heart. And gently your darkness will dissipate as your life unfolds with greater grace and greater ease. Forward this blog to any one you know who could benefit from awakening their own inner healer. Join me this week on Hay House Radio and if you want to spend some time in the SweetSpot with me, explore some of my upcoming events. In the meantime, I’ll see you in the gap! Peace. -davidji
