Hello Spiritual Warriors!! and welcome to this week’s edition of The Source on balancing looking to the future with staying in the present moment.
In his timeless classic Walden, Henry David Thoreau wrote:
“We should be blessed if we lived in the present always, and did not spend our days in atoning for the neglect of past opportunities. We loiter in winter while it is already spring. In a pleasant spring morning, all men’s sins are forgiven.”
We spend so much time “loitering in winter.” But, we also spend a whole bunch of time “loitering” in next winter – projecting, predicting, worrying, and fantasizing about the future.
Where does that leave us? Not spending very much time being brilliant in the present moment!
It’s important to have goals, targets, and ambitions. If we don’t, how can we truly achieve or fulfill our dreams? But, if we spend those precious moments living in the future, we are not seizing this sacred, precious present moment. We are not brilliantly executing in the now.
Have you ever been with a friend, loved one, or co-worker, and your mind is so distantly in the future or past, that they are speaking to us and we are oblivious to it? In those moments, we are neither with them or with the thing in our mind… we are nowhere.
If all we do is think about our goals; if all we do is stress about what may or may not happen, we are depriving ourselves from being magnificent in the here and now ; that is where all the sweet, vital nectar of life is flowing. And, if we are neither here nor there, then we are missing out on the opportunity to execute brilliantly.
We see it all the time in sports. The stakes are high… winning the game is within reach. But the athlete is not in the present, so the end-result is less-than brilliant execution.
But you can make a commitment right now to get clear on your goal, crystalize the target, set your course, and then execute brilliantly, and deliver a performance worthy of a gold medal winner.
Early next year, I’m rekindling my Set Your Course workshop, where for 4 days, we will get clear on our goals, release blockages to achieving them, set our course, and take steps to execute brilliantly. We’ll also meditate every day and you’ll learn the ancient practice of BirthStar Mantra Meditation!!! We’ve just announced early-bird tuition and I’d love for you to join me in making 2020 the most amazing year of our lives. You can read more about it here.
In the meantime, keep meditating!! Share this video with your loved ones, friends, and co-workers so everyone can be on the same page as you soar into your dream life.
And I’ll see you in the gap! Peace. -davidji
