What kind of meditation is right for you? Spiritual Awakening (Part 2)

Hello, Spiritual Warrior!

This is our second video on setting the stage for your spiritual awakening.

We are moving through an eight-part series on this topic!

Once a month you’ll see a new video on this topic land into your Inbox.

Today we are turning our focus towards finding the answer to this question:

What kind of meditation is right for you?

It can be overwhelming to try to figure out what meditation you may enjoy most. And meditation should always be something that you want to do, not something that you make yourself do.

But in order to figure out which meditation technique is the one you will enjoy returning to again and again, we need to try different styles.

Today I thought I’d share about three of the most prominent types of meditations:

  • Mindfulness meditation
  • Mantra meditation
  • Body scan meditation

Mindfulness meditation is one of the oldest meditations in existence – it dates back to the days when the Buddha walked the earth, about 2600 years ago!

And with mindfulness meditation, we are stripping away all of our connections to everything outside and beginning with the obvious starting point, which is Being Aware. Watching. Witnessing.

Remember that we have tens of thousands of thoughts every single day, and when we meditate, we aren’t trying to stop the thoughts; we are learning to watch them and allow our attention to drift back to an object of our attention – such as simply watching the breath moving in, and the breath moving out.

Mantra meditation is another meditation technique, where we use a mantra as the object of our attention. Man- means mind, and –tra means instrument, or vehicle. So therefore a mantra is a mind instrument, a mind vehicle.

Mantras can be in any language, yet we use them more for their vibration versus the actual meaning. For example, the mantra ‘om’ is probably the oldest mantra in existence.

Using Sanskrit mantras can be helpful since this is not currently a spoken language on our planet, so it allows us to keep the mind from thinking as we reflect on the vibrational qualities of the mantra.

And finally, a body scan meditation is a very popular meditation technique. And there are various styles of body scanning.

You can feel yourself breathe into each area, or maybe you choose to witness and accept each area.

There’s no right or wrong way to do a body scan, there’s only what is right or wrong for you. So play around with it – see what works, what you enjoy, what feels good – and then keep coming back to that practice.

As you try out various meditation techniques, ask yourself, first and foremost – what is the state that you want to be in?

Do you want meditation to make you alert and awake?

Or calm and relaxed?

Find the things that resonate most with you, otherwise you are not going to want to keep meditating!
