Hello, Spiritual Warrior!
Today I wanted to share this powerful story with you – it’s the story of how Siddhartha Gautama became one of the world’s greatest spiritual teachers: The Buddha.
I’ll let the video walk you through his life story – taking him from being born a prince, completely protected in a palace and unknowing of the outside world, to his leaving the palace walls to begin his journey into the outer world.
What he learned outside of those palace walls – pain, suffering, death, change – eventually turned into one of the greatest spiritual lessons we could ever receive: The Five Remembrances:
- I am of the nature to grow old.
- I am of the nature to become ill.
- I am of the nature to die.
- I am of the nature of change. Everything I love and hold dear I will be separated from.
- My actions are my only true belongings. I am the heir of my actions. My actions are the ground upon which I stand, which is the law of karma, the law of cause and effect.
When you watch the video, you’ll learn so much more that is held within this story. And when you are done, I invite you to take some time to journal on how this shows up in your own life:
Has there ever been a palace in your life? Something that was curated or delusional, something you were taught from a young age and thought it was the truth until something happened to shift that worldview for you?
What illusions could no longer hold once your eyes were opened and your heart was awakened to a new truth, a new reality?
These are deep and powerful questions, and I’d love to hear what you come up with.
Sending love,
davidji
