Welcome to this week’s edition of Life Tools where we discuss becoming more mindful about our tendencies to want to control everything around us. We are all subtle control freaks! (some of us not so subtle). And when we think we have lost control, then fear, anger, anxiety, stress, and disappointment set in. But if we can accept an uncontrollable change for what it is… accept the reality that we do not have full control over what happens in life, then it becomes easier to be graceful when change visits.

There are only a few things we can actually “control,” and turning our attention to those is the key:

  • Our thoughts through meditation;
  • Our words through impeccable & conscious speech; and
  • Our actions through, as the Buddha said, right action… coming from a place of stillness.

This week, let’s loosen our grip just a little, slide into the passenger’s seat and allow the universe to do the driving.

Peace. -davidji

  1. I needed to read this today, perfect timing, when the student is ready the teacher appears, thank you for being my teacher today, I love your work.

  2. Just what I needed…showing up in imperfect perfection…I’m so grateful Davidji for your wonderful guidance teachings. I feel so blessed to have
    You show up in my path. Just what I was
    Looking for. Many blessings wished for you.

  3. What a powerful message this is for me today… a gift that has already changed my experience, to feel connected and safe again… thank you so much! Wishing everyone love, healing and happiness on this beautiful day 🙂

  4. What an amazing quote, love your gender-changed version!
    Oh how often I catch myself trying to control everything, when it turns out sooooo much better when I relax and throw out a couple of keys…..
    Smiling here, thanks, Davidji!

  5. I really don’t like driving and prefer to be a passenger. Might that mean – I’m ready to let go? It takes so much energy to maintain our identity . If we loosen up , who knows how the energy could be used? Possibly a whole new me! Wouldn’t that be refreshing? I’ve grown tired of my story line and I’m proud to say that. Aha!!!!

  6. I love this because I’m one heck of a control freak and hate being hurt or seeing people hurt I want to save everyone who means the most!
