Hello, Spiritual Warrior,
When I moved from the East Coast to California, I brought everything with me.
Every letter I’d ever written or received. Old poetry. For nearly ten years, I didn’t delete a single email – just in case I needed it someday. By the time I was settled from the move, I had over 300 boxes sitting in a storage unit.
I’d been a meditation teacher for years at that point, with very little to do with that old life. But I hadn’t actually let go of it. I was just storing it.
So I made a commitment: throw out at least a couple hundred of those boxes. Feel lighter. And somewhere around box number 200, I had to be honest with myself about what I was really doing with all these boxes – I wasn’t preserving my past; I was congesting my present.
Here’s why this matters, beyond just tidiness:
If your hands are full, you can’t receive anything.
This isn’t only about boxes in a storage unit. It’s about the scenario you’re still replaying in your head. The argument from last week. The version of yourself from ten years ago that you keep dragging into rooms that no longer need it. Everybody is carrying some baggage that isn’t adding value to this moment.
So here’s what I want to invite you to do this week. Take three things – not people, just things – that you’ve been holding onto that no longer serve you. Write each one down. Just a sentence or two. Don’t write a book. Then release them, however that looks for you.
🔥Burn them.
🗑️Trash them.
📣Say them out loud and let them go.
Make it a small ceremony – it doesn’t need all the bells and whistles, it just needs to be devotional and have some intention behind it.
Here’s the part that always amazes me: nature doesn’t like empty space for long.
The moment you actually create space, the universe tends to fill it with something nourishing.
That’s the whole secret behind setting an intention and then releasing your grip on it. Release isn’t giving up; it’s making room for what’s trying to arrive.
If you trust that life will keep delivering you to where you need to be, you don’t have to cling to the raft quite so hard.
So I’ll leave you with this question: what are you still holding onto? What would it feel like to loosen your grip, just slightly, today?
Namaste,
davidji
