Mantra: So hum

Happy weekend, spiritual warriors! So much of our lives is a giant swirl of family, work, kids, friends, commutes, grocery shopping, cooking, dog walking, holidays, texting, facebooking, and more. This weekend, let’s take some time to slow down… to nourish our minds, bodies and souls. For some that might be reading a book, taking a walk and connecting to nature, meditating for longer than usual, getting a massage, or spending quality time with a loved one. Whatever brings you to a space of calm, quiet and relaxation! Enjoy this weekend’s meditation – I hope it helps you slow the swirl, connect to source, calm your mind and rejuvenate your soul.

In the meantime, I’ll see you in the gap!!! peace. -davidji

Hello Spiritual Warriors! And welcome to another transformational week of learning to resist less so we can receive more!

As the Seventh Dalai Lama wrote:

“All things found in the world and beyond are illusions created by one’s own concepts. Grasping at them but further distorts perception. Give up grasping and see things as they are.”

Like the daily practice of meditation – the process of lessening our resistance includes surrendering, accepting, detaching, and then trusting that this moment is THE moment – bringing our awareness to the fluidity and evolutionary nature of life.

The English word resist comes from the Latin word resistere, which means to stand against or oppose. When we oppose what is flowing into us, we are saying NO to the Universe. We are denying our most divine nature. We are inserting our ego into the moment instead of allowing the divine to flow through us.

Wayne Dyer referred to the EGO as Edging God Out. When we resist, we suddenly put an end to infinite possibilities. There are many lessons (and growing pains) along the journey of our life, which may contribute to the underlying challenge that makes us reluctant to trust and welcome the unknown. But we can shift that non-nourishing mindset very easily and quickly by beginning the processing of ALLOWING ourselves to receive what’s being offered to us right now.

[tweet_dis]When you resist, you say NO to the universe. You deny your magnificent divinity. davidji.com[/tweet_dis]

This doesn’t mean you should have no boundaries in your life or that you say YES to every request that comes your way. That doesn’t serve anyone – especially yourself. What it truly means is that you are open to listen… open to receive whatever comes your way… and THEN YOU GET TO DECIDE how you will respond.

You may, in fact, respond to many situations that come into your world with a BIG FAT “NO!” or a “HELL YES!” or simply a “YES, but…”, and even a “NO, but…” And now you have four very different response scenarios, which will lead you in four very different directions with an infinite number of outcomes that can then unfold. When you resist, there is only one outcome that you are carving into the moment. And then the battle begins. We think it is a battle between us and the other person but in reality, it’s a battle between us and the Universe. Simply by opening yourself to four outcomes rather than one, life expands, new possibilities arise, and your choices become liberating as fear and constriction drift away.

[tweet_dis]The key to living the dream life is being open to receive.[/tweet_dis] Receive and then respond creatively. Not with your talking points or the things you’ve said over and over but perhaps this time with a brand new way to see the situation.

In our current election situation, half of the country is pointing fingers at the other half of the country. Nothing can move forward unless we find the bridges that connect us. We need to work hard to find the common ground that will unite our hearts. We need to lead with love. And we need to trust.

Miracles often appear when we least expect them: when we are innocent and vulnerable to the next moment. The magic of life surges into us when we remain open without expectation and are willing to listen without assuming that we know how the universe is supposed to unfold.

So, this week, let’s give up grasping… let’s give up fear… let’s give up RESISTING! The best is yet to come!!!!!

In the meantime, I’ll see you in the gap!! Peace. -davidji

Mantra: Om raam ritam

If you find yourself stuck in any direction in your life, this meditation can help take you from where you are to where you want to be. But first we have to ask ourselves a few questions:

  • Do I believe in the power of renewal?
  • Do I give myself permission to be worthy of another chance?
  • Am I open to stepping into my power and leaning in the direction of my dream?

Answer these questions truthfully. The answers might not come immediately, and that’s OK. Just continue to connect to the stillness and silence that rests within and your life will blossom and bloom in the direction of your dreams.

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Source, where we’ll explore sitting with our emotions.

I’ve just returned from an amazing weekend in Fort Lauderdale for the Hay House’s very last I Can Do It! where I had a truly blessed opportunity to commune with more than 2,000 spiritual warriors. Here’s a clip from my keynote.

[easy-social-share]

I cover emotions in several chapters in my book “destressifying,” and it’s a core topic of many of my retreats at the Meditation Nest. [tweet_dis]If we don’t truly understand our emotions, they can often hold us hostage in a cycle that can be difficult to break.[/tweet_dis]

“I don’t want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them.”  ―Oscar Wilde

We live each moment of our life through the ebb and flow of emotions. It’s almost as if each beat of our heart, and every breath we take, move us in one direction or another. We are a bundle of conditioned emotions that are primed to respond to the momentary assessment of whether our needs have been met or not.

Our natural reaction to pain is to shirk from it – to pull back… to run from it, hide from it, or push it away. And we can pretty much do that with everything that comes at us in our life. Yet, if we spend our lives dodging every uncomfortable emotion that bubbles up, we stay in the same constricted place.

To live a bold, rich, growth-filled and ever-evolving life, we need to acknowledge and accept the thorns in life just as we celebrate the beauty in it. A gentle start to this process is to sit with your emotions as they arise and let them unfold – to truly feel them!

A rookie mistake for so many Spiritual Warriors on the path to one-ness is the desire to only want to see sunshine and rainbows in every moment – but in the process they deny their growth, they deny their humanity, they deny their potential. [tweet_dis]The moment we restrict ourselves to only “good news” or only “pleasant” experiences is the moment we stop living.[/tweet_dis]

To understand that in our brokenness and sadness, we embrace our wholeness… and the wholeness of life, is one of the most important lessons we as human beings can learn. If we deny our own pain, how can we truly have compassion for someone else’s?

When you suppress emotions, you’re likely to express them inadvertently in other avenues by being snide, sarcastic, snarky, retaliatory, biting, harsh, or downright mean to people who had nothing to do with your initial frustration. Suppressing our feelings is now scientifically proven to lead to poor memory, relationship challenges, and deeper health issues as our body is influenced so strongly by our subjective conscious experiences.

[Tweet “If you don’t know why you feel a certain way you experience emotional overwhelm or confusion. Learn how to overcome it destressifying.com “]

We can rise above the constriction by heightening our emotional intelligence, by learning to sit with our emotions and working toward “owning” these four capabilities:

  1. Correctly perceive emotions
  2. Retrieve and produce emotions to assist thought
  3. Comprehend emotions and understand them, and
  4. Effectively adjust emotions to promote personal development and growth

If you don’t know how you feel or why you feel a certain way, you will experience emotional overwhelm or confusion and won’t be able to communicate effectively, meet your needs, or resolve disagreements. But if we master our emotional intelligence, we will flow with less stress and make better decisions. And, the more successful we are at heightening these core skill sets, the happier and more fulfilled we will be.

Before I ever shared these teachings with others, I studied emotional healing for a decade under Dr. David Simon, & attended the Hoffman Institute, where I was taught to deconstruct my emotional blue print. I then spent five years, reconstructing it. I began integrating these powerful teachings into my workshops, immersions, retreats, and Teacher Trainings where thousands have experienced emotional breakthroughs & stepped into their power.

I encourage you to join me this Coming March for my Manifesting Your Dream Life immersion where I will teach you these powerful techniques to release the emotional baggage that has often derailed our best plans. In this gentle, yet potent & proven process, together we will ensure that this year truly unfolds as the most fulfilling year of your life!

The beauty of EI is that it’s not a function of simply being born with a high EQ; our personal emotional intelligence can be learned, cultivated and mastered. Although daily intelligence is important to succeeding in life, emotional intelligence is key to achieving your goals. In this process, you will learn to meet more of your own needs!

I’ll see you on the gap!! Peace. -davidji

You are never alone or helpless. The force that guides the stars guides you too. – Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Mantra: Sattwa

Happy Weekend Spiritual Warriors!
Join me in making a personal commitment to carry the essence of sattwa (purity) this weekend – steady, calm, & peaceful. You are what we think because with your thoughts you create your world; therefore, speak or act with a pure mind and happiness will follow. Your thoughts are the divine expressions of the universe, but it is only once the universe flows into us that we are able to become pure. You have total control over our actions, yet you have no control of what will come from those actions. Through meditation you can access the purity and wholeness that lies within you so you can then flow it back out into the world. Once you understand that you are a translator of the universe in every moment, you can begin to experience happiness. So today’s meditation will be on accessing your purity.
Peace. -davidji

Progress is our theme this week, and this word is an important distinction  when we’re talking about bettering ourselves, improving our relationships or manifesting our dream life. So many of us carry a heavy burden — a burden to be perfect in all we do — to always do the right thing, make the right choice, use the right words, move in the right direction. But, is perfection really the ultimate goal? Sometimes when we focus too much on the end result, we lose sight of the magnificent process of growth… of progress… continually moving in the direction of our goals while staying mindful of the steps we’re taking to get there. Often those steps suddenly lead us in a different direction than what we originally wanted, but there is so much to learn during that Process of Progress!!

This week, during your meditation, think of a journey you are currently going through. Think about how that journey started… was it painful? was is frightening? was it happy? or nourishing? What has happened along the way to move you the direction you want to go? Identify just one or two steps, no matter how small, that you can take (starting now!) to progress toward becoming the best version of yourself possible and getting to a place you want to be. Remember, reflection is only part of the process, you then need to act… step into your power and own your impact!

If you’d like to dive deeper into studying the process of progress toward perfection (in the sense of becoming the best version of yourself possible), the Six Perfections of Buddhism is just one of the many ancient teachings we study intensively in my Masters of Wisdom & Meditation Teacher Training. They are:

Perfection of Generosity

Generosity is a true generosity of spirit, giving from sincere desire to benefit others, without expectation of reward or recognition. There must be no selfishness attached. Even charity work done to “feel good about myself” is not true generosity.

Perfection of Morality

Buddhist morality is not about unquestioning obedience to a list of rules. Yes, there are precepts, but the precepts are something like training wheels. They guide us until we find our own balance and develop selfless compassion. Along the way we practice renunciation and gain an appreciation for karma.

Perfection of Patience

The Buddhist word ksanti is patience, tolerance, forbearance, endurance, or composure. It literally means “able to withstand.” It is said there are three dimensions to ksanti: the ability to endure personal hardship; patience with others; and acceptance of truth.
The perfection of ksanti begins with acceptance of the Four Noble Truths.

Perfection of Energy

Perfection of energy is about making a courageous, heroic effort to realize enlightenment. To practice this, we first develop our own character and courage. We engage in spiritual training. And then we dedicate our fearless efforts to the benefit of others.

Dhyana (meditation – the 7th limb of yoga according to Patanjali) is a discipline intended to cultivate the mind. Dhyana also means a deeper awareness of oneness, which is inclusive of perception of body, mind, senses and surroundings, yet remaining unidentified with it.

Feeling stuck? Trying to move through change? Download my Getting Unstuck guided meditation to your personal library by clicking here.Perfection of Meditation

Perfection of Wisdom

Wisdom is the direct and intimate realization emptiness, and that all phenomena are without self-essence. This wisdom cannot be understood by intellect alone. So how do we understand it? Through the practice of the other perfections — generosity, morality, patience, energy, and meditation.

Wow!!! Did your mind just explode with wonder at the Six Perfections? These are profound virtues that when studied and used to cultivate the best versions of ourselves can help us make a powerful shift in our lives for the better. If you’d like to learn more about the Six Perfections and other ancient, timeless teachings consider joining my next teacher training. Visual Meditation

For this weekend’s meditation, I’d like to share a different form of meditation than what I usually create for you. In my Masters of Wisdom & Meditation Teacher Training we study all types of meditation, including visual meditation. Sri yantra is a popular form of visual meditation. It is rooted in India’s Vedic and yogic traditions. For thousands of years, people have meditated by staring into the devotional labyrinths of Buddhist mandalas and Hindu yantras in order to achieve higher states of consciousness. These are visual representations of the journey of evolution, usually depicting a deity in the center that acts as the source of one-ness. Around the deity are ever-opening concentric circles (mandala is a Sanskrit term meaning “circle”), other geometric shapes, and depictions of nature or holy scenes.

Click here for a larger version of the sri yantra.

Sri (also spelled shri and pronounced shree) is Sanskrit for “wealth” or “abundance;” in this case it means “most revered.” Yantra is a Sanskrit word for “vehicle” or “instrument.” So the sri yantra is a revered visual instrument that uses the mathematical proportions known as the golden ratio. The scientific proportions used to create such structures as the Parthenon, and the Great Pyramid at Giza are based on the same naturally occurring sacred ratios we witness in the development of pine cones, ferns, succulents and nautilus shells. The sacred geometrics of the sri yantra depict a pure visual expression of the journey of existence, expanding from the cosmic one-ness (the source) to multiplicity (our personal expression of the universe) and then back to one-ness—all the while providing that very experience of one-ness. It is a meditation in itself.

The simultaneously static and dynamic interplay of all the elements of the sri yantra—squares, circles, “perfect” triangles, lines, and a point—depict the process of evolution (growth away from the source) and involution (coming from multiple layers back to one single source) in the form of a visual meditation.

The sri yantra is formed by nine interlocking triangles that surround and radiate out from the central point that then creates 34 individual triangles. This centering point, known as the bindu, is the junction point between the physical realm and its unmanifest source and represents the universe in all its abundance. Four of the larger triangles point upward, representing Shiva, or masculine energy. Five of the triangles point downward, representing Shakti, or feminine energy. Thus the sri yantra also represents the union of masculine and feminine divine energy.

Since the sri yantra is composed of nine triangles, it is often known as the navayoni chakra (nava means “nine,” and yoni refers to female womb as the source of all life, and chakra means “energy center”). Together, the nine triangles are interlaced in such a way as to form 43 smaller triangles in a web representative of the entire cosmos or a womb symbolic of creation. This is surrounded by a lotus of 8 petals, a lotus of 16 petals, and an earth square resembling a temple with four doors that face all four sides representing north, south, east, and west.

Sri Yantras & Mandalas in Art

Sri yantras come in many different forms, colors, and representations. Use one that feels right to you. I would like to extend a special thank you to artist Francesca Becker, creator of these amazing mandalas. She recently published “HeartFlower Mandalas,”an exquisite compilation of detailed paintings originally hand-done from geometric calculations (non-computer generated) rendered in airbrush ink and gouache on illustration board. You learn more about her book and view more of her work at www.mandalaheart.com.

If you have other sri yantras you’d like to share with the Sweetspot Community, post the link in the comments below or send an email to customerservice@davidji.com and we’ll post the links.

Welcome Spiritual Warriors, and welcome to this week’s edition of The Source in which we explore self-acceptance.

We’re always our harshest critic. We know that we have made choices and decisions throughout our life that we may regret or torture ourselves about. But they are carved in stone, and we must accept them, forgive ourselves, and make better choices in the future.

A lot of self acceptance really comes down to awareness. The more aware we are – of ourselves, of our words, of our actions, of their impact, of other’s emotions, of our surroundings – the more conscious we are. When we are more conscious, we are more aligned with the universe… allowing us to flow love more easily, experience deeper meaning in the moment, and live lives of greater balance and happiness.

In the ancient Vedic traditions, everything in our physical world is made up of a balance of three forces known in Sanskrit as gunas. The gunas are tendencies…potential in a given moment. The three gunas are sattva, rajas, & tamas. Just like the doshas in Ayurveda, each of the three gunas is ever present simultaneously in every particle of creation, but variations in their amounts and the balance they manifest in a given moment influence our surroundings, our mind, our body, and our soul.

So what are the gunas?

Sattva can be translated to mean clarity, purity, balance, harmony, order, and lucidity. It’s light and luminous – awakening and developing our soul.
Rajas can be translated to mean change, movement, passion, turbulence, and dynamism. It’s the tendency toward attraction, repulsion, fear, and desire. It’s the principle of energy.
Tamas can be translated to mean darkness, heaviness, constriction, negativity, and dullness. It’s the force that leads us to attachment, stagnation, and inertia – even destruction or devolution.

Everything within us and outside of us can be defined as either sattvic – filled with lightness; rajasic – filled with energy; or tamasic – containing heaviness. In each moment, our surroundings, our emotions, the foods we ingest, our feelings, and every internal & external interaction is expressing a guna.

Use the three gunas as a tool of awareness & balance to help you awaken your most genuine self; a tool of balance to ease your physiology and your emotional state back to center; and a tool of growth to help you die to the past and evolve to your best expression.

Real compassion starts with self-compassion, which leads to self-acceptance. Keep meditating. I’ll see you in the gap!

Peace. -davidji
