“Yoga is the cessation of the movements of the mind. Then there is abiding in the Seer’s own form.”
– Patanjali, The Yoga Sutras

Hello Spiritual Warriors!!!!!! Welcome to another week of exploration.

When you close our eyes and ask yourself the question: “who am I?” what comes back to you? Sometimes answers will flow. Sometimes there will be no answers. But most of the time, what flows back is our job, our title, the description on our resume, our relationship to everything and any one in the world – we identify ourselves by our school, our town, our country, our religion, our food choices, what teams we root for, what politics we resonate with, what authors we read or what actors we like. We define ourselves by saying internally & externally, I am a… daughter, or son, a mother, or father, a brother or sister, an aunt or uncle. These orientations to our world help give us an understanding of our relationship to it – and identify it to others. We’ve all seen the bumper sticker “I’m a proud parent of an honor student.”

Meditate, swim, explore, and learn with me in Tulum this November!

Regardless of what type of meditation style you practice, you can begin your daily meditation by asking a powerful and profound question such as “who am I?” or “what am I grateful for?” Or “how can I flow more compassion into the world?” or “how can I be more patient today?”

You can begin your morning meditation practice with any questions or any prayer you feel like starting with. I often begin by asking myself the Five Secrets of the SweetSpot or a series of questions known as the soul questions. These help begin my trajectory for the day. They often then create a san kalpa – a subtle intention that flows through me throughout the day. When you ask these types of questions – let them simmer for a bit inside you, then release them…let go of them…and let the answers flow throughout the rest of the day, amazing ripples begin to flow.

The new guided experience from davidji & SacredFire!
The new guided experience from davidji & SacredFire!

By asking these questions, listening to answers or silence, AND THEN LETTING GO OF THEM, we set the table for our daily practice. There is no need to bring the questions or the answers into your mind during the meditation. They are already a part of who you are. And as you expand in consciousness, the cosmic dialogue will continue to expand within you, and you will gain clarity into who you really are – beneath your clothes, beneath your flesh, beneath your opinions, and your beliefs. You will connect with what really rests at your core. If prayer is talking to god…meditation is listening. So give yourself a chance to reflect first thing in the morning on who you are. When we ask these questions over and over, we have an opportunity to go beyond our pre-conceived notions of who we are. The self-definitions become expanded…constrictions fall away. We become more than who we were only minutes before. We activate our true potential.

These are the aspects of Self that hundreds of millions of people explore every day; and that have been explored for thousands of years. These are some of the deepest questions you could ask yourself. And if more answers come to you while you are meditating, gently drift back to your breath, the mantra, or the object of your attention. We do nothing with the information that comes to us during meditation. That’s simply a process for making the soil more fertile. It’s outside of meditation, when the seeds you’ve planted in that soil are growing, that you feel more expanded, more creative, more intuitive, and more insightful. It’s not during meditation that the value of this process takes form. It’s back here with the rest of us, when you’re eyes are wide open, and you’re interacting with the world.

Reflecting on who you are is a stepping-stone to an effortless daily practice, and is a building block for living an expanded, abundant, compassionate life. Of course, you can begin your practice with any ritual that feels comfortable. What are the questions that are important to you? Write them down; explore them before meditating for a solid week, and you will feel them unfold in your life. (Remember: Don’t bring these questions or their answers into your meditation.) After you have asked questions and allowed answers to flow (and sometimes there will be no answers), simply release them. Let them go, and begin your meditation. You can add emphasis to your letting go of them by physically releasing them. Take a long, slow, deep breath in and then let them go. As you exhale, send them out into the universe. Then begin your practice, using your breath, mantra, or another object of your attention. I’ll go deeper on how to awaken our emotional intelligence on Hay House Radio this week. Join me on LIVE! from the SweetSpot.

In the meantime, I’ll see you in the gap! Peace. -davidji

“To feel the love of people whom we love is a fire that feeds our life.”
― Pablo Neruda

Hello Spiritual Warriors!!! And welcome to another opportunity to explore & share the timeless teachings of – Ayurveda – pronounced eye – yur – vey-dah.

Ayurveda is known as the oldest healing system on the planet. And, because of its universality, we can connect to this timeless wisdom in every moment. Literally, the “wisdom of life,” these ancient teachings offer us a way to heal emotionally & physically. That’s why I co-created my newest CD Journey to Infinity with the world-renowned sound healers Dean Richards & Mj Vermette, known as SacredFire.

According to Ayurveda, everything that flows within us and everything that flows outside of us is comprised of five master elements – space (akasha), air (vayu – pronounced v-eye-you), fire (tejas – pronounced tay -jas), water (jala), and earth (prithivi). In Sanskrit, these elements are known as the “pancha (five) maha (master) bhutas (elements).

Ayurveda considers these five elements the building blocks of life and teaches us that everything in existence is a blend of these five master elements. So that means every person, every animal, every corner of the planet, every aspect of your daily life… has space, air, fire, water & earth inherent in its make-up.

Each element has a particular characteristic inherent in its make-up. Space is infinite…flowing pure potentiality in every moment. Air is constantly changing…flowing movement into us and our environment. Fire is transformative…metabolizing every thought, word, & action. Water is protective…nourishing us in each moment. And Earth is structure…providing stability & groundedness. This intermingling of all five elements determines the energetic flow in every moment…in every conversation…in every interaction…in every interpretation & in every expression. Some moments carry more space, while others are fiery, and others are earthy. By being mindful in each moment – of what we have too much of and what we don’t have enough of – we can make more conscious choices and bring in what we lack while releasing what is in the extreme. Let’s say you are procrastinating or you’re stuck on the couch. That would mean we have too much earth. Or perhaps, you were harsh with a loved one or co-worker. Then you would have too much fire.

These are powerful awareness tools. We can invigorate ourselves with movement when we have too much earth – getting us to move past procrastination. We can nourish ourselves with water when we have too much fire – helping us to be more patient, more compassionate, and choosing our words more wisely.

Cultivating a daily meditation practice can help bring you into balance by heightening your awareness and giving you a greater understanding of where you are too much or not enough.

If balancing yourself through the elements resonates with you, then join me in November on the sweet warm beaches of the Mayan Riviera – on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. For 7 days, we will explore the elements, heal our selves through this timeless wisdom, meditate, practice yoga, commune with nature, and explore the five realms of existence together.

SacredFire will be performing throughout the week – and if you’ve ever wanted to fully immerse in something deeply and truly transform your life, then spend these seven days with me. We will rise with the sun, meditate together, swim in the warm sweet, salty sea, dine on fresh, delicious local delicacies, walk the labyrinth, receive powerful healing massages, and connect with likeminded fellow explorers from around the world.

Attendance is limited – and our days will be a seamless fusion of daily sessions with me, group activities, sound healings with SacredFire, private reflection, and free time to take excursions, connect with the Mayan gods in the Temazcal, or play on the beach. Come alone and make new friends or bring your significant other to share in your transformation. Everything is included except your travel and payment plans are available if that makes it more do-able.

We specifically selected November 22-29 so that we can celebrate thanksgiving together in a loving, supportive environment. And we have taken over the magnificent beachfront resort for the week so we will have the most nourishing experience. If you have any questions in deciding to come, email me personally at info@davidji.com. Remember, we transform the world by transforming ourselves.

In the meantime, I’ll see you in the gap. Peace. -d

“Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.”
– Carl Jung

Hello Spiritual Warriors! Welcome to a week of identifying our needs & consciously sharing them. Not so easy when we reflect on all the ama – the toxic residue – we leave out there throughout the day…in emails, texts, phone calls, and innocent conversations. The Buddha taught 2600 years ago when in-person speech was the primary way to share information. (remember those days?)

But almost 3000 years later, here we are, and the concept of Right Speech (the 3rd teaching of the Noble Eight-Fold Path which includes right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, & right concentration) flows into all the ways we communicate with others.

The Buddha referred to all these communications as Verbal Acts and encouraged all beings to reflect on your speech, before, during, and after speaking.

He encouraged the self-reflective question, “Will this verbal act lead to self-affliction, to the affliction of others, or to both?”

If the answer is yes, he considered it an unskillful verbal act.

Join me LIVE every Thursday at 11a PST/2p EST on hayhouseradio.com…radio for your soul.

Deepak Chopra echoes the Buddha’s teachings when he encourages us in the Law of Karma to ask, “Will this choice bring fulfillment & happiness to me and also to those affected by this choice?”

If upon reflecting on your words before you speak, you determine that they would lead to self-affliction, to the affliction of others, or to both – then we must acknowledge in that moment that they will create ama and the ripple of that toxic residue will release pain into the world. Therefore, we would be better off – the world will be better off – if you don’t speak them.

But what if it’s too late. What if you’ve already released ama into the world through your written or spoken words? To this the Buddha counseled, “confess it, reveal it, lay it open to the Teacher or to a knowledgeable companion in the holy life. Having confessed it… you should exercise restraint in the future.”

So today, let’s come clean with our unskillful verbal acts. Let’s confess them, reveal them, RELEASE our attachment to them and make the conscious choice to perform a more skillful verbal act in the future. We are not bound forever by our past unskillful verbal acts – we get to speak new loving, truthful words again after thoughtful reflection. And we have the ability to make more conscious choices and re-cast the trajectory we have created…create a new ripple…one filled with truth, kindness, & purpose. Then your world will flow with greater sweetness, greater grace, and greater ease. Join me this week on Hay House Radio and let’s manifest some skillful verbal acts. See you in the gap! Peace. -davidji
